The Security Companion is designed specifically to make installing T-screw security hardware quicker and easier.
If you have questions about using the Security Companion or have come across an unusual T-screw security hardware configuration that doesn't seem quite right, please scroll through the information below where we have covered some of the most common questions.
If you have a question that is not addressed below, please email info@accumounttools.com and we will be happy to assist.
1) Will the Security Companion work with all T-screw slot hardware?
The Security Companion is designed to work with all commonly available T-screw slot hardware. During development, the Security Companion was tested with hardware from numerous suppliers to ensure compatibility.
2) Are there any key considerations when using the Security Companion?
The only key consideration is that the Security Companion be fully seated in the hardware slot and tightened.
3) The Security Companion sits firmly seated on the hardware without tightening it. Why is tightening needed?
Tightening is important for two reasons. First, it ensures the positional accuracy of the mark by removing “play” in the device that is present in the untightened state. Second, tightening ensures that the stamper pad travel will always be sufficient to mark, and always with the same push-to-mark “feel”.
4) I purchased some security hardware that has a slot too small for the Security Companion to seat. What should I do?
The Security Companion is designed to have close tolerance to the hardware slot dimensions to ensure accuracy. In the event of some hardware where the Security Companion will not seat, there are two possible remedies. The first is to use hardware from a different supplier. The other is to use a small file to remove some material from the sides of the 2 posts that align the Security Companion in the hardware slot. This will allow the Security Companion to seat with the hardware in question, having only very minimal effect when used with hardware from other suppliers. AccuMount Tools would be interested in knowing the supplier of the too-small slot hardware; this information can be sent to info@accumounttools.com.
5) The Security Companion marks are getting faint. What is the problem?
This is a sign that the ink pad is becoming depleted of ink. Replacement ink caps are available in our shop.
6) Why is it better to use the point locator tool when possible to mark the T-screw location?
The accuracy of the lower ink mark for the T-screw location can be affected by the mounted position of the wall clips and subsequent adjustment to level the art/frame. This can result in further wall clips adjustment being needed to align the T-screw to its hardware slot. Since the point locator tool is used after any adjustment for level with the art/frame mounted on the wall clips, it exactly marks the T-screw location thus ensuring T-screw alignment to the hardware slot. The lower ink mark is a helpful reference as the point locator “dimple” will be in the vicinity of that mark.
7) I have a high security application that requires all T-screws (no wall clips). How should I proceed?
Using all T-screws for mounting is a situation that highlights the capability of the Security Companion. Seat and tighten the Security Companion on each of the slot hardware pieces. Locate the desired position for the art/frame on the surface, making sure it is level as there is no adjustment possible when using all T-screws. Mark the surface. The marks give the exact location for all T-screws such that they are aligned with their respective hardware slots on the art/frame.
